This is a font issue, the web pages set its own custom fonts which cannot show
for some reason. I can also reproduce the same issue in GNOME as well. Could be
a locale/encoding issue as well.

But in Firefox, if you unselect “Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead
of your selections above” in Firefox preferences, the text will show up.
