Could you please take a try for a up-to-date thunar version, and see if it
still is a problem ? E.g. 1.6.15

I tried with  thunar master and 1.6.15, but I was not able to reproduce.
I have two nfs locations of my backup systems in the  bookmarks. The backup
system usually is powered off.

So far thunar did not hang during startup for me.

I dont have autofs installed ...  just installed it, but that seems not to
change anything for me. Possibly this is a autofs bug ? Can you reproduce the
bug with nautilus / or nemo ?

As well it is possible that the bug meanwhile got fixed in gvfs-backends (
which is used by thunar to access remote locations ) .. please check if you run
a up-to date version of it !  I am running gvfs version 1.30.4-1
