In fact I'm using Adwaita! You can reproduce this issue using Xubuntu Current
(which has a live ISO that you can boot through a VM machine):

What's weird is that in my system (Porteus) old Thunar (1.6.15) works just
nice; no problem whatsoever. Just by updating to Thunar 1.8.1 the issue
appears. It may be some incompatibility between libs. What you think?
