I cannot reproduce this bug with the curent thunar version (1.8.2)
I cloned a repo via git. The thunar tree-view was updated immediatly.

Meanwhile some tree-view fixes got applied,  possibly this fixed the missing
refresh.

Please take a try for 1.8.2 and let me know if the problem still exists for you
