It's not the same feature : having folder.jpg icons inside the directories
allows to deal with music libraries : if you have 2000 directories (1 per
album), each one with a cover artwork : setting custom images manually is not
an option ;) 

You can add an option to set custom icons manually, but still the folder.jpg is
another feature.
