This is caused because the defaults.list says to use Nautilus. Thunar has no
control over that file; it is supplied by Ubuntu developers.

So the best place to discuss this is on the Launchpad bug:

I have added the desktop-file-utils package to that bug as it is the supplier
of defaults.txt.
