In my experience the behavior of "Log Out" is exactly the same in Applications
menu and Action buttons.

I think there is some error in design. "Log out" does not necessarily log out,
if "Prompt on logout" checked: Suspend and Hibernate does not log out session.
And "Save session for future logins" setting should be visible in settings.
