One issue is that there's no standard for user switching. gdm provides a
gdm-flexiserver binary, lightdm uses a crude hack to provide the same one in
another PATH, but there's (afaik) no such thing as a common, standardized way
to do it.

xfswitch-plugin will enable you to call this gdm-flexiserver binary, in case
you're interested.
