I doubt xfce-mcs-manager would slow down the file selector (I hardly see how it
could), but, *maybe* the user has set an icon theme that slow downs icon
drawings or a partucularily slow gtk theme (pixmap based) and killing
xfce-mcs-manager would revert the icon/gtk themes to their defaults and thus
speed things up. Just a theory.

Please, try changing the settings to see if that helps.
