Unfortunately there is no 'defaults.in' in xfwm4's source tree which
'defaults' could be built from, so the build process of course fails if I
remove xfwm4/defaults/defaults. I've freshly checked out todays (20040709)
CVS version.

Yes, I changed the CVS after posting the comment which was valid for the
current tree.

So you had to either update your CVS tree or proceed as I said.
