From xfce-apps at xfce.org Wed Feb 9 15:35:44 2005 From: xfce-apps at xfce.org (xfce-apps at xfce.org) Date: Wed, 09 Feb 2005 15:35:44 +0100 Subject: [Xfce-apps] mailing list active Message-ID: <420A1FC0.2010508@foo-projects.org> Hi, I just repeat on the mailinglist for the record here. Note the name of the list is 'xfce-apps at xfce.org'. ===== the five of you have showed interest in becoming a maintainer of 'apps.xfce.org', the new site that should become a library or reference for Xfce-based applications (or even applications that just work really well together with Xfce). To increase the chance of this happening in the best way possible, I suggest that you 5 decide yourselves in what way you wish to setup this site. This gives you the opportunity to lower the amount of work you do on it and make it a group effort, which will benefit the continuity of the site as well. I suggest that you all go fight and discuss and make a plan on how you are gonna tackle it too. You will be given a ssh account on the server if needed etc. in time, but for now I would like to have you concentrate on working together. Perhaps it is a wise choice to pick one of you as 'group leader' so not everyone is asking me for details, and me and the Xfce project people can check upon you easily. I suggest that you CC everyone in the addressee list. I will create a mailinglist `apps at xfce.org` to which you all will be subscribed. As soon as that is setup, the discussion and maintenance should be performed on that (public) list. Someone recently asked for `themes.xfce.org' on IRC, which made me re-think about this `apps vs. directory' question. If we name it `directory.xfce.org' instead, you could include themes as well, and people would no longer need to dive thru the forums to find interesting themes. I once started to collect various themes from the forum (all authors agreed) and put them into a single autoconf'ed themes pack, but I cannot maintain it, as it takes too much time out of me crawling thru the forums, looking for new or updated themes. The latest version is available at: http://www.xfce.org/~benny/trials/xfce4-themes-pack-0.2.0.tar.gz So, what do you think? > Auke "sofar" Kok Benedikt -- Xfce -- small, stable, fast -- http://www.xfce.org/ (__) (oo) /------\/ / | || * /\---/\ ~~ ~~ ...."Have you mooed today?"... That's up to the 5 individuals that are also subscribed to this mailinglist but yet haven't reacted in anyway to my previous 2 messages. I hope that they understand that we're serious and that we're also not going to kick their asses around to do stuff, since we have other stuff to do (like coding or managing the site). I replied past messages... But I don't have enough time to be _full time_ on site. When I said I would help, I was thinking on contribute searching apps and themes... I don't have even english good enough to maintain a site... Now, going on point. I think directory.xfce.org is better... It's a macro choice. apps.xfce.org is micro, talks just about apps.. ?:) about which cms to use, there is an option everyone knows - drupal (http://drupal.org/). Drupla is the cms used by Mozilla Foundation... We got also Mambo (http://mamboserver.com/). Everyone says that mambo is very simple to manage. I really don't know... I hope I helped... Project description: Xfce4 Panel Menu is a plugin for the Xfce4 panel that provides a menu similar to the start menu in Windows XP. It contains an applications menu, a menu of recently opened apps, and user-defined shortcuts. It also includes a device mounter, from which it possible to mount devices listed in the fstab configuration file. The application menu and user shortcuts are stored in the same format as the Xfce4 root menu, so they can be edited with the tool that cames with the Xfce environment. http://freshmeat.net/projects/xfce4panelmenu/ -- Tom?s A.
