Message-ID: <54E33B8B.6000201@evolve-os.com> So, lets keep this short. :) Is the decision to move to GTK3 still agreed on? This isn't a pros/cons topic but a yes/no. The subject of Xfce came up on Google+ earlier and looking through the git logs it seems there is a less active development community nowadays. Would you like help in getting Xfce ported to GTK? If so, I'm sure I can rally up some more GTK3-orientated developers on Google+, etc, to all give me a hand in getting some patches together and dragging Xfce into GTK3 land. Hmm, first ... thanks for the interest. Xfce have not gained much attention, and I have not been actively using it for a few years. So the short answer is really : no > Would you like help in getting Xfce ported to GTK? This would really just make sense if Xfce4 moved there too (GTK3 i guessed), but I don't see that happen any time soon. I user Xfce4 myself, and are very happy at its current state, so I really understand why there is no big drive towards GTK3. > If so, I'm sure I can rally up some more GTK3-orientated developers > on Google+, etc, to all give me a hand in getting some patches together > and dragging Xfce into GTK3 land. I really like many of the base idears in Xfce, but I also would like to make use of a more C++11/14'ish kind of interface, and maybe even a generated code using GTK3 introspection, but ... event though I find this really exciting, I don't really have the needed time, and even more so as my current and future interface needs ends up mostly in web browsers. You could port Xfce to GTK3 in its current shape, but not much have been written using this framework, so there is really no point as far as I can see. But please feel free give it a try, one never know what this could end with, I have plenty of idears og GTK3 has lots of potential. If you have some real need for GTK3 wrapping I also have to mention Gtkmm as an more maintained alternative. /BL > > > Cheers, > > Ikey Doherty > > - Evolve OS Founder > _______________________________________________ > Xfc-dev mailing list > Xfc-dev at xfce.org > https://mail.xfce.org/mailman/listinfo/xfc-dev
