<br>
some time ago I opened the bug 6050<br>
(<a href="https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6050" target="_blank">https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6050</a>) which was discussed<br>
controversially, then closed. Harald Judt asked me to discuss the topic<br>
on the mailing list, so that a wider audience participates the<br>
discussion. I hope that this is the correct list :)<br>

Here is my original request:<br>
<br>
The thunar-volman "Removable Drives and Media" shows up in the GNOME<br>
settings menu, and possibly in others, too (KDE? LXDE?).<br>
<br>
However, this is a thunar bug: in the<br>
file /usr/share/applications/thunar-volman-settings.desktop, the line<br>
OnlyShowIn=XFCE;<br>
should be added to indicate that this is a XFCE-specific item.<br>
<br>
<br>
The arguments so far were:<br>
- Why would anyone install thunar-volman without thunar on a DE that<br>
has a filemanager and very likely a volman too?<br>
- When multiple users are sharing the same computer, multiple DE<br>
might be installed. The thunar-settings should not show up in the<br>
"wrong" DE, then.<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>Thunar is part of the Xfce core, but is not limited to the Xfce desktop.</div><div>The Xfce desktop is modular in a way you can replace parts with 3rd-party components or use parts of xfce in other desktops.</div><div>I know a fair amount of users who use Thunar outside the Xfce desktop.</div><div>I think it is worse to not show when you want it, as to the otherway around.</div><div>Meaning I don't want OnlyShowIn.</div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">
- The thunar-setting is named "Removable Drives and Media" in the menu,<br>
which is very similar to the equivalent GNOME-settings, for example.<br>
This can be very confusing to users.<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>If there are desktops which also provide this and do not have the modular design or just install everything be default, we could add exceptions for them.</div><div>Adding NotShowIn=GNOME for example.</div><div>This list should be taken with care, as we don't know how the user wants to Thunar+volman and in which DE they use it.</div><div>If the users installed multiple DE it might just be up to the user to add these lines.</div><div> <br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">
So let the discussion begin :-)<br>
