Is this because of Polkit? it is a polkit-gtk-dialog or something? from 
my understanding devices mounted by HAL are known to devkit as mounted 
by others, thus to unmount the polkit permission 
*(org.freedesktop.devicekit.disks.filesystem-unmount-others*) is needed, 
while this could just cause permission denied, the root password that 
pops up is likely because the caller to the unmount specifies 
'AllowUserInteraction' or a Force somewhere, if this is the case or not, 
it is not Thunar's problem anyway.

(1) It is a complete mess while these implementations should be done 
since many years already, i'm pissed off from this situation as well, 
seems there is no progress also, apart from messing up with other 
things, like re-naming devkit-disks to udisks and devkit-power to 
upower, but okay, sorry to say that, we don't have to clean up what 
other people are vomiting, what you've done with Thunar is already awesome.
