There are several ways to display the/order by date.

I have made three screenies, one displaying the date format in the
preference dialog[0], a second displaying how to sort by date in the
icons view[1], and a third displaying how to sort by date in the tree
view[2].

My version is Thunar 0.8.1svn-r25931 (Xfce 4.5.0svn).
