That doesn't really sound like much of a project though.  Changing
thunar's volume manager to automount would only require a couple lines
of code per volume manager impl, no?  Or one each, even.

Or one could write a little daemon in like 50 lines that uses thunar-vfs
and automounts every time something gets plugged in.  Ok, here's one in
48 lines:

Well, ok, now that I added the license header, it's more than 50 lines.
 Sue me.

(Note: wrote it in about 5 minutes, not tested beyond plugging in my
ipod to see if it automounts.  If it causes your computer to explode, or
insults your mother, I disclaim responsibility.)
