I agree that the path bar is a replacement for the location bar. 
However, what is it's main advantage over the location bar? The fact 
that it turns each path element into a manipulateable object. Each 
button represents a shortcut to a directory. As such you should be able 
to treat it like a directory in the iconview.

So you should be able to drag and drop to a button, right-click and get 
the standard directory context menu.
