Hey guys,
This mail is mostly for the record, since only a few people are already
subscribed to this mailinglist... but, here it goes:
I've been quite busy lately, so I wasn't able to work for Thunar. But
today I continued with the User Interface part.
First, I'm collecting links to interesting articles about file manager
User Interfaces, which can be helpful in deciding on a good UI for
Thunar. My current links - only the interesting ones, of course :-) -
are available on the wiki at:
http://thunar.xfce.org/wiki/ui:overview#articles
If you know of any other interesting links, please let me know (or edit
the wiki for those of you with accounts).
Furthermore, I started with the UI prototyping app today. I decided to
use Python/PyGTK for this, since Python is more common than Ruby - and
Perl is simply weird. ;-)
I imported it as design/ui/ to the thunar CVS repository.
WebCVS: http://thunar.xfce.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/design/ui/
Developers: :ext:<name>@xfce.org:/var/cvs/thunar (module: design)
(Auke, is anoncvs available for Thunar?)
This python stuff will be used to prototype the User Interface (Yannow,
its hard to impossible to decide on certain UI aspect if its only in
your mind). And since its Python and only a hack, more people can be
involved in the UI design process.
Currently, it contains only the basic view and the fixed file properties
dialog (I'll update the Wiki ASAP), there are still a lot of open
issues, so feel free to share your thoughts.
But don't just commit changes; instead, discuss them first on this list.
Thats all for the funny stuff, now on with the administrativa: Auke, can
we have a thunar-commits mailinglist please? And another thing: The Wiki
supports sending out change notifications as well; should we send them
to another mailinglist as well?
greets,
Benedikt
PS: Alex, please fill in the form at http://foo-projects.org/node/3 to
get an account for xfce.org.
PPS: Botsie bugged me with another name-change mail; is it really
critical to change the release name for Thunar?
