date/time format across restarts
Message-ID:
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16622
Bug ID: 16622
Summary: New line character not saved in date/time format
across restarts
Classification: Panel Plugins
Product: Xfce4-datetime-plugin
Version: unspecified
Hardware: PC (x86_64)
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: Medium
Component: General
Assignee: goodies-dev at xfce.org
Reporter: b7.10110111 at gmail.com
Target Milestone: ---
I'm using XFCE4 panel's Clock plugin with the following format: " %A
%R\n%_d %B %Y г.", where "\n" is the LF character (0x0A). It works fine,
meaning that the date/time format is indeed split into two lines as I wanted.
But after restarting the panel this LF character gets transformed into SPACE
character (0x20).
The problem seems to come from the fact that in
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml the relevant
property "digital-format" is always saved literally, with a hard newline, which
on deserialization gets normalized into space. If I change this newline to
, it gets loaded correctly, but is then overwritten by the wrong string.

To answer your question: yes, the plugin was last released 6 weeks ago.

I also get the API warning.
Met.no LocationforecastLTS API states that this version
of the webservice is deprecated, and the plugin needs to be
adapted to use a newer version, or it will stop working within
a few months.
Please file a bug on https://bugzilla.xfce.org if no one
else has done so yet.

If a panel is set to deskbar or horizontal, it would be good if genmon could
rotate its output by 90 degrees or if not done by default, a checkbox in the
properties would allow this to happen.
I wanted to put the player status widget, but its not useable presently.

ugly patch
Today it is common to have a CPU with 16+ cores/threads (mine Ryzen 3900X has
24) which makes current usage bars to take big space on the panel. My proposal
is to make these bars densier. It won't be probably possible without replacing
gtk_progress_bar with custom widget and drawing bars as strokes.
I have "hacked" the code for a proof of concept. Please see the diff and the
attached image how does it look like. For the simplification I have sacrified
the graph area.

I am willing to imlpement it but I expect that somebody could propose a design
for additional settings. I propose that settings could contain width, spacing
and background color of the bars. Note that I never worked with Xfce code or
GTK before.
