[Goodies-dev] Panel plugin settings in xfconf

Hi everyone,
working on my own little plugin I read on the wiki that plugins use rc
files to save their settings. There is not a single word about xfconf.
>From my understanding I don't see any issues with using xfconf (or
GSettings as another alternative) in the context of plugin development.
Am I missing something or can I use whatever settings backend I like?
