Yes, that would be a good solution.

Another option is a preference on whether user wants auto-fit or not. I would
set it by default to on, but if you think different it can be also to off by
default as long as there is an option.

And, BTW, one thing doesn't exclude the other. There may be an option and
window size be saved as well.
