The source tarball for the latest release might need patching but the 
latest git of thunar-media-tags-plugin has those patches applied or very 
similar ones. See https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6295 or look 
at the commits which are very recent and done by the experienced Xfce 
developers. You can contact the Debian developer if you want but I'm 
pretty sure he already checked to make sure that the plugin was in the 
process of being fixed.

One minor thing you should do is remember to edit the subject line when 
you reply to a digest :).
