The buttons are catched ( 3 brightness down 4 up), could be that HALD 
didn't detect correctly the laptop_panel for some reason ( kernel 
upgrade for example), anyway please attach me the output of lshal as 
well as the output of xfpm when you start it from the terminal with 
--no-daemon.
