The patch posted here by Yves-Alexis Perez (dated 2007-07-22) worked as
advertised. I now have the labels of my two keyboard variants showing up as I
toggle between then. Thanks, Yves-Alexis. This had been a very irritating
problem for me, since I was spoiled that KDE's similar applet.

I wish this patch would be integrated into the app.
