Is it safe to assume that the plugin doesn't pick on Berlin like it used to
pick on Paris?

The Debian maintainers reported the above bug so they certainly know about it.
It looks as though they are going to upload a new version soon, but I'm afraid
you'll have to wait a while until it reaches testing.
